Cell cycle: Routine role for Ras
نویسنده
چکیده
The Ras proteins are key mediators of the early cellular response to mitogens; the way in which they influence the later events in the cell cycle is beginning to fall into place.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary malignant tumor of the liver. The effect of some genes especially those involved in cell cycle regulation have been shown in the development of this cancer in several studies but there are some controversies about them yet. Materials and methods: The paraffin-embedded tissue samples of 25 patients (18 males and 7 females) with hep...
متن کاملCell cycle-dependent activation of Ras
BACKGROUND Ras proteins play an essential role in the transduction of signals from a wide range of cell-surface receptors to the nucleus. These signals may promote cellular proliferation or differentiation, depending on the cell background. It is well established that Ras plays an important role in the transduction of mitogenic signals from activated growth-factor receptors, leading to cell-cyc...
متن کاملRAS pathways to cell cycle control and cell transformation.
Ras genes are among the most frequently activated oncogenes in cancer. The corresponding protooncogenes are proteins expressed in the majority of tissues in mammals and have a signal transduction activity. Ras proteins interact with a wide spectrum of regulators and downstream effectors producing different cellular responses, including proliferation, differentiation or apoptosis. This review de...
متن کاملEffects of trichostatin A, a histone deacetylase inhibitor, on the regulation of apoptosis in H-ras-transformed breast epithelial cells.
This study examined the mechanism for the anti-cancer effects of histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor trichostatin A (TsA) in H-ras-transformed human breast epithelial (MCF10A-ras) cells. The effects of TsA on anti-cancer effects of MCF10A-ras cells were determined by measuring the level of cell cycle regulator expression and apoptotic cell death using Western blotting and flow cytometry analys...
متن کاملShc dominant negative disrupts cell cycle progression in both G0-G1 and G2-M of ErbB2-positive breast cancer cells.
The Shc protein helps to transmit signals from receptor and cytoplasmic tyrosine kinases to Ras. We have shown that several breast cancer cell lines (MDA-MB-453, BT474, MDA-MB-361, and SKBR3), which overexpress the ErbB2 receptor tyrosine kinase, contain constitutively tyrosine phosphorylated Shc. To investigate the role of Shc in these cells, we transfected them with a Shc-Y317F dominant-negat...
